Maria Palacio

Home      About

Maria Palacio starting dancing at a young age with ballet and jazz.  Over time her passion for dance grew into other styles like flamenco, traditional latin dances and more, performing at local latin festivals in South Carolina.   One day she saw a flyer offering bellydance classes at a local gym.  She started taking classes and was soon hooked.  A few years later, Natalie Brown came to Columbia from New Orleans and started teaching ATS (American Tribal Style) bellydance.  It took a couple of tries but instantly she was drawn to this style of dancing.  A few years later, she became a member of Delirium Tribal, Columbia's premiere bellydance troupe.  A few years afterwards, Maria pursued here solo career.  She is most know for combining her spanish heritage and flamenco flare into her bellydance style.   She continues her dance education with Natalie Brown and through workshops, having taken classes from Amy Sigil of Unmata, Mira Betz, Asharah, Mahsati Janan and many more.

2010 will be an exciting year for Maria.  She will be hosting her first bellydance workshop / show January 16 & 17.  Yasmine of Magic Hips (Charlotte, NC) will be the instructor.  Maria will be bringing more quality instructors to the Columbia area throughout the year.

Maria also started a bellydance fusion troupe in October 2009, Serpentine Bellydance Company.  Their first performance as a troupe was January 16, 2010.  Current troupe members are Miranda, Madelyn, Amanda & Wynn.   Keep an eye out for this troupe.  They will be performing throughout SC, NC and GA.
